The Pembroke Business Improvement Area (PBIA) is excited to announce that its Shamrock Park revitalization project has been selected for funding through the My Main Street Community Activator initiative. This support will help transform the downtown park into a vibrant space for community gatherings and special events.
The revitalization plan includes a range of upgrades designed to make Shamrock Park a more inviting and functional location for both residents and visitors. Key improvements will feature the installation of hydro services, enabling the PBIA to host a variety of new events and activities. Other enhancements include new park furniture, bike racks to promote active transportation, a gazebo for public performances, public art installations, and outdoor games.
According to the PBIA, these upgrades are expected to boost foot traffic to the downtown area, increase economic activity, and provide a platform for local artists and entrepreneurs. The revitalized park will not only serve as a community hub but also foster collaboration between businesses and residents, strengthening local bonds and supporting the growth of the downtown core.
“This support will allow us to grow Shamrock Park into a vibrant community gathering spot that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike,” said Bethea Summers, Executive Director of the Pembroke Business Improvement Area. “We are thrilled that this project will have a lasting positive impact on our downtown, both socially and economically.”
The project is also in line with the My Main Street program’s goals of supporting community-driven economic development and enhancing the quality of life for residents. The program, delivered by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) and funded by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), aims to revitalize main streets across Canada by supporting projects that bring people together and encourage local engagement.
Mary W. Rowe, CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute, emphasized the importance of revitalizing main streets to strengthen communities. “Downtowns are the heart of Canadian cities, and projects like Shamrock Park’s revitalization help attract visitors, support local businesses, and improve the overall experience for everyone,” she said.
The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, also expressed her support, noting, “Investing in community projects like this helps revitalize our main streets, supports local businesses, and creates stronger, more vibrant communities.”
The PBIA is excited to continue its efforts in transforming Shamrock Park into a space that will not only enhance the downtown area but also create lasting memories for residents and visitors.
