Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) is proud to highlight the continued success of the Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN), a provincial initiative designed to strengthen Ontario’s healthcare workforce. Since its launch in 2021, the program has played a key role in attracting and retaining skilled Registered Nurses (RNs), benefiting hospitals across Ontario, including PRH.
The CCPN offers newly hired RNs the opportunity to receive $25,000 in grant funding if they commit to two years of full-time employment. To qualify, nurses must meet specific criteria, such as not having worked as a nurse in Ontario in the six months before being hired. They must also hold a Certificate of Registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario, begin their employment between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, and not be receiving funding from the Ministry of Health’s Tuition Support Program for Nurses or have been hired through the Nursing Graduate Guarantee program.
Beth Brownlee, Vice-President of Clinical and Support Services and Chief Nursing Executive at PRH, emphasized how vital the program has been in bringing skilled professionals to the hospital. “We are grateful for this support, as it allows us to foster a supportive environment, drawing in skilled professionals who contribute to our mission of delivering quality health services,” she said.
So far, 21 nurses have successfully enrolled in the CCPN at PRH, bringing their expertise and dedication to the hospital. Brownlee noted that their participation not only strengthens the hospital’s ability to meet the community’s healthcare needs but also ensures that patients continue to receive the highest standard of care.
Registered Nurse Kiana Yeman, who is enrolled in the program, shared how the financial support has helped ease the stress of student loans while providing her with the opportunity to work in a community and workplace she enjoys. “It’s been a huge relief, both financially and emotionally. It’s also brought me to a place where I truly feel valued,” she said.
The CCPN continues to play a crucial role in addressing Ontario’s nursing shortage and ensuring patients receive excellent care. Pembroke Regional Hospital is committed to supporting this important initiative, which has made a positive impact on both the hospital and the broader community since its inception.
