The Grind Pembroke, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the city’s most vulnerable and marginalized citizens, is determined to continue its work in the community following a recent decision by the City of Pembroke’s council. The council chose not to sell the building at 273 Victoria Street to The Grind, despite previous agreements.
This decision came as a surprise to The Grind, which had been operating under the belief that the sale was a step forward in securing a permanent home for the organization. As a result, an application hearing has been scheduled for early 2025 to address the situation and explore potential solutions.
Despite this setback, The Grind remains focused on its mission and will continue to provide essential services to those in need. The organization has emphasized its commitment to working with city officials and other partners to reach a resolution that benefits both The Grind and the community.
“We disagree with the City’s decision, but we respect the council process and look forward to presenting our case in early 2025,” said Jerry Novack, Executive Director of The Grind Pembroke. “Our priority remains the well-being of our community, and we will continue to offer crucial programs, services, and support to Pembroke’s most vulnerable residents. The Grind will remain a safe, supportive space for those who need it most.”
While the legal process moves forward, The Grind is committed to ensuring that its services continue without interruption. The organization’s operations will remain fully functional from its current location, and it will continue to uphold its mission to serve Pembroke’s vulnerable populations.
The Grind Pembroke thanks the community for its ongoing support and looks forward to working together to ensure a positive outcome for all.
