In a heartfelt announcement, long-serving Member of the Provincial Parliament (MPP) John Yakabuski has decided not to seek re-election in the upcoming provincial election. After over 21 years of dedicated service, John shared his decision in a personal letter, expressing gratitude to his constituents, staff, and family.
The letter, which was shared with the community, reads:
“After much consideration and conversations with those nearest and dearest to me, I’ve decided that I will not be a candidate in the next provincial election. I will, of course, continue to carry out my duties as your MPP until such an election is called. After over 21 years, of serving as your elected representative, it is time to move onto a new phase in my life.”
John, who has represented his riding in six consecutive elections, reflected on the honor and privilege of serving his constituents in the Ontario Legislature. He emphasized that his decision came after careful thought and many discussions with his wife, Vicky, and other close family members.
“It has been an honour, beyond description, to be chosen by you, my constituents, in six consecutive elections to represent you in the Legislature. When Vicky and I decided many years ago that this would be our path in life, we did so, not knowing how long I would be privileged to serve.”
He expressed immense pride in the accomplishments made during his tenure, including key investments and projects delivered to the community. However, he noted that the greatest reward of his career has been the relationships he built with the people of the riding.
“While there have been many rewarding times, as important improvements, investments, and projects were delivered to the riding, our greatest joy and lasting memory will be the wonderful and amazing people we have met and gotten to know along the way. I will be ever grateful for those experiences.”
He also took the opportunity to thank his dedicated staff, particularly those working at the constituency level, for their hard work and commitment.
“My very special thanks to those who have served as my staff, particularly at the Constituency level. None of the successes that have come my way would have been possible without their dedication and commitment.”
Finally, John expressed his deepest gratitude to his wife, Vicky, and their family for their unwavering support throughout his political career.
“Lastly but most importantly, I reserve my deepest thank you for my dear wife Vicky and our family. The life of a politician requires significant sacrifice on their part which they accepted without complaint. Vicky’s unconditional love and unending support has fuelled and encouraged me every step of the journey.”
John concluded his letter with a note of appreciation, saying that he has been truly blessed by the opportunity to serve.
This marks the end of a long and distinguished political career for the John, who leaves behind a legacy of service to his community and province. His decision not to seek re-election has prompted many to reflect on his contributions and the impact he has had on local residents.
