Two residents of the Upper Ottawa Valley are facing impaired driving charges after separate incidents in the region. On November 10, at around 11:00 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a family dispute involving an assault at the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation. During the investigation, officers learned that one of the individuals involved had left the scene in a vehicle and may have been impaired. Police located the vehicle in Killaloe shortly after and conducted a roadside screening. The driver, a 66-year-old from the First Nation, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired by alcohol (blood alcohol concentration of 80mg or more) and assault. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on December 10. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
On November 13, at approximately 9:00 p.m., UOV OPP conducted a traffic stop on Simpson Pit Road near Highway 60. Following the stop, a roadside screening test was performed, and the driver, 38-year-old Amy Kluke from Killaloe Hagarty and Richards Township, was arrested for impaired driving. Kluke has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80mg or more. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 8.
Both individuals had their driver’s licenses suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days. The OPP continues to remind drivers of the dangers and consequences of impaired driving.
