Deep River and District Health (DRDH) has introduced a groundbreaking translation service to improve patient and resident care. This new service, powered by the Voyce app, allows patients and residents to easily connect with professional interpreters in over 200 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL). This technology aims to reduce communication barriers and ensure equitable access to care for individuals from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
The service is now available across various DRDH facilities, including the North Renfrew Family Health Team, Four Seasons Lodge Long-Term Care Home, and the Deep River and District Hospital’s Emergency Department, Medical Inpatient Unit, and outpatient clinics. By making the Voyce app accessible throughout its health campus, DRDH ensures that patients and residents can communicate effectively with their care providers in any setting.
Janna Hotson, President and CEO of DRDH, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “We strive to ensure that every patient and resident feels understood and supported. With the Voyce app, we are taking a significant step forward in delivering culturally competent care.” The app allows patients to select interpreters based on cultural preferences, offering a more personalized care experience.
The service is designed to be user-friendly and inclusive, allowing patients to invite family members to join conversations with interpreters for additional support when needed. Dr. Michael Sage, Chief of Staff at DRDH, highlighted the impact of the new service, saying, “By offering language support across our entire campus, we are fostering a more inclusive healthcare environment and better supporting those we care for.”
The introduction of the Voyce app marks a significant advancement in DRDH’s commitment to enhancing communication and improving care through innovative technology. By breaking down language barriers, the service strengthens the quality of care and ensures a more compassionate, patient-centered experience for all.
