UPDATE: At 1:03 p.m., Environment Canada updated its alert to a Freezing Rain Warning.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of the Ottawa Valley.
In a Monday morning statement, officials said freezing rain is possible tonight into Tuesday morning, with a possibility of ice buildup on some surfaces.
” A low-pressure system could bring freezing rain to the area beginning tonight. Temperatures in the affected area are forecast to hover around zero degrees Celsius overnight and Tuesday morning,” reads the alert. “As a result, ice accretion on the ground and road surfaces is expected to be variable as the ground is still relatively warm. However, icy conditions are possible, especially on elevated surfaces like bridges, overpasses and untreated roadways.”
The notice says the Algonquin area may also receive five to 10 cm of snow locally by Tuesday.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
The public is asked to please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
