The Pembroke Fire Department quickly responded to a report of a car on fire on Pembroke St. West early Sunday morning at around 1:25 a.m. Initially, one pumper truck and three personnel were dispatched. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two vehicles fully engulfed in flames and a third vehicle damaged by heat exposure. The high winds at the time caused the fire to spread rapidly.
Firefighters worked quickly to bring the blaze under control, preventing further damage to other nearby vehicles. The incident presented several hazards, including the risk of exploding tires and airbags, which created dangerous projectiles and rapidly changing fire conditions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and none of the vehicles were occupied at the time of the fire.
Pembroke residents are reminded to stay clear of vehicle fires due to the risk of flying projectiles and toxic smoke, which can be harmful. In case of a vehicle fire, people are advised to call 9-1-1 from a safe distance.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Pembroke Fire Department thanks the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the City of Pembroke Operations Department for their support at the scene.
