Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) recently celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Inpatient Surgical space and Day Surgery Unit. The $20 million project, which includes $2.6 million in donations, marks the largest Ministry-funded investment since 2004. The event, held on November 15, was attended by community partners, hospital staff, and local officials.
The renovations transformed the third floor of Towers A and D, improving patient care by consolidating all surgical services in one modern, patient-friendly space. The updated Day Surgery Unit, which opened in March 2024, now includes an endoscopy suite and minor procedure rooms, all designed to enhance patient experience and efficiency.
A major highlight is the new 15-bed Inpatient Surgical space, featuring larger, more private rooms, new isolation rooms, and improved infrastructure, including energy-efficient windows, modernized bathrooms, and enhanced safety features. The updated facility aims to provide a more comfortable and efficient environment for both patients and healthcare staff.
“This renovation is a significant milestone, made possible by the generosity of our community and donors,” said Lisa Edmonds, Board Chair for the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation. “It will make a real difference in the care we provide.”
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski also praised the new facility, noting the improvements will provide more efficient and effective care for local residents. PRH President and CEO Sabine Mersmann expressed gratitude to the project team, emphasizing how the renovations will improve care for patients.
The event included speeches, testimonials, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the completion of a project that enhances the hospital’s ability to serve the community with world-class surgical care.
