A local resident is facing serious criminal charges following an investigation in the Town of Petawawa. The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment began their investigation on November 18, after a Petawawa resident reported returning home to find that a gunshot had been fired through the wall of their apartment, which was shared with an adjacent unit. Fortunately, the apartment was unoccupied at the time, and no one was injured.
During the investigation, police seized several firearms and ammunition. As a result, 23-year-old Matthew Raghunath of Petawawa has been charged with discharging a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner, mischief under $5000, and mischief for interfering with the lawful use or operation of property under $5000. Raghunath has been released and is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on December 30.
