This week’s edition of Experience This is all about The Brick. The Brick Pembroke has been serving the community for almost 18 years with Patti and Matt Bailey owning and running the business for the last 10 years. They are local business owners who have three children in Pembroke, and they understand the pressure that comes with owning a business and raising a family.
Being part of a big franchise can be difficult, but Patti tells myFM that it can be easy if you have the right background. She has worked in sales most of her life, she is grateful to Allen Bower from Bowers Gas for guiding her with her career and being her mentor.
Patti talks about how they love to give back and make sure they are being a community supporter. They have been in partnership with CHEO for three years and have raised thousands of dollars for CHEO. Every year they put on a golf tournament in which all proceeds go towards CHEO, last year they were able to raise roughly $15,000. This year, Patti says they are already $20,000 ahead of their goal! They also sell Brick Bears year-round and all proceeds go towards CHEO as well.
Giving back doesn’t always have to do with a fundraiser or event but Patti explains how they try to help out in any way possible. They have helped out new immigrants with furniture, they help out local organizations as well like The Grind and the Pembroke Regional Hospital. Patti tells myFM how she has been approached by so many people who they have helped out, she explains that it is an amazing feeling but that’s not why they do it.
She also says that running a great business also means having a great team, she notes that her staff is amazing when it comes to all the extra stuff The Brick does within the community. “They are always so motivated and excited to give back to the community. Honestly, it makes coming into work so much better when you know everyone loves what they do,” said Patti. She also says it is a different experience running a business with your husband and partner.
One thing The Brick is doing until Christmas is Grand in Your Hand! It is $20 per tickets and if you win, half goes to you and the other half goes to CHEO.
