Residents in the Townships of Bonnechere Valley, North Algona Wilberforce, and Admaston/Bromley will soon have access to a more reliable and cost-effective energy source for their homes and businesses. The Eganville Community Expansion Project, funded by $26 million from the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program, will bring natural gas to these areas over the next decade.
Ryan Reid, Operations Manager for Enbridge Gas in the Eastern Region, explained that the project will provide natural gas to many residential customers during the 10-year rollout. The expansion will be supported by a system surcharge of 23 cents per cubic meter, which will be paid by all customers who benefit from the new service.
The project will connect to Enbridge Gas’s existing system at the intersection of Snake River Line and McGuinty Road, extending westward to Foymount Road in Eganville. Phase One includes the construction of 11 kilometers of natural gas pipeline, with a mix of polyethylene (PE) and steel pipes. Phase Two will add another 11 kilometers of PE pipeline to complete the system.
MPP John Yakabuski, who attended the project ceremony, praised the initiative, highlighting how it would give residents more options for energy services in their homes. The expansion will also include additional infrastructure, such as pressure-reducing stations and customer service connections, to ensure the system is reliable for all users.
As part of the preparation for the project, Enbridge Gas crews will conduct activities such as soil sampling, land surveying, and test digs to finalize the project’s routes and construction schedules. While these activities may cause some noise or disruption, they are essential for the successful completion of the project. Enbridge Gas assures the public that all employees and contractors will carry proper identification.
The Eganville Community Expansion Project is an important step in expanding natural gas access across Ontario, bringing affordable energy options to more communities as part of the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program.
