One local business owner has made her hobbies into functioning store. The Country Cupboard located at 3221 Petawawa Blvd. has been successfully running for 28 years. Cheryl Jordan has owned and operated the store since 1996, her favourite part of being a business owner is being able to give back to the community.
Cheryl explains that she started by hosting painting classes, more specifically she taught folk-art painting. She noticed that in the area there wasn’t a lot of workshops with many instructors to help out, so she decided to start teaching paint classes, but that wouldn’t last for long…
She would love to start up her folk-art paint classes again but with the store, their online auctions, give always and much more, she is a very busy lady. When COVID-19 hit and stores were closed down, she needed to find a new way to reach her customers. She created a Facebook page where she sells her products online, as well as online auctions.
She has shipped her products to costumers all across Canada from Nain in Newfoundland and Labrador all the way to British Columbia and even places in Yellow Knife and even into the states.
Jordan explains that within The Country Cupboard there is roughly 50 craft vendors, some are local vendors like a lady from Renfrew who makes bird houses, to another lady from Nova Scotia who makes snowmen. She explains how wonderful it is to display so many wonderful talented artists in the Valley and all over Canada right there in her store. Her main goal with being a local business is community.
As Christmas approaches and your in need for a gift for someone, make sure to check out The Country Cupboard!
