For Valley Transportation, this donation is more than just a holiday gesture; it’s a reflection of the company’s ongoing commitment to giving back. Owner Chuck Sandrelli highlighted how small contributions can have a big impact, noting how “you never know who you are really helping out.”
For over two decades, Valley Transportation has been turning children’s dreams into reality just in time for Christmas. This year, the Pembroke-based bus company continued its tradition by donating $5,000 to Make-A-Wish Canada, bringing their total lifetime contribution to an impressive $70,000 since 2002.
The donation was presented during the Valley Transportation Christmas luncheon, where drivers and management came together to support the cause. Taylor Hittner, Development Officer at Make-A-Wish Canada, was present to accept the cheque from Chuck Sandrelli, owner of Valley Transportation, and the bus drivers who generously contributed $5 from each of their paychecks to the cause.
Hittner explained the importance of continuous fundraising efforts, saying that the wishes for children facing critical illnesses never end.
Hittner shared that Make-A-Wish grants wishes in five categories: “I wish to go,” “I wish to have,” “I wish to meet,” “I wish to be,” and “I wish to give.” Her personal favorite to grant is the “I wish to be,” which brings unique opportunities for children to experience something life-changing.
The work of Make-A-Wish goes beyond the wishes themselves. Hittner explained that the organization maintains a strong alumni network, where families stay connected to the wishes granted, sharing stories of their journeys, challenges, and, ultimately, their recovery. This network helps spread awareness and shows the lasting impact of the wishes. Her favourite part of her job is seeing how the community is so connected with making sure they give back and help out where they can.
