Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s leading nuclear science and technology organization, has released its 2023-2024 Sustainability Report. This annual document outlines CNL’s progress in promoting sustainable operations across its sites, which it manages on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL). CNL’s sustainability goals include reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, and fostering stronger ties with Indigenous communities.
The report highlights several key accomplishments, including a 51% emissions reduction at Chalk River Laboratories, efforts to divert waste from landfills, and the opening of the award-winning Science Collaboration Centre. CNL also signed long-term agreements with Indigenous communities, supporting local economic opportunities.
