Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has stepped down from her cabinet role on the day she was set to present the fall economic statement.
In her resignation letter, she explained that the Prime Minister offered her a different cabinet position last Friday, but she felt the only honest choice was to leave. Freeland mentioned ongoing disagreements with the Prime Minister over the best way to address Canada’s challenges.
Freeland pointed to serious concerns about the incoming U.S. administration and its tariff threats. She emphasized the need for a focused approach and avoiding costly political distractions.
She also confirmed her plan to run for re-election in the next federal election.
