The County of Renfrew is excited to announce that the Algonquin Trail has officially joined the Trans Canada Trail network, a major achievement for the region. This milestone adds 132 kilometers of trail to the world’s longest multi-use trail system, with an additional 105 kilometers set to be included when the remainder of the Algonquin Trail is completed.
The Trans Canada Trail now extends through Renfrew County, connecting the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) from Smith Falls in Lanark County. The trail system, managed by the Trans Canada Trail organization, is supported by local, provincial, and federal governments, as well as donors. It spans more than 29,000 kilometers, linking every province and territory across urban, rural, and wilderness areas.
Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon expressed pride in this new development, saying, “The addition of the Algonquin Trail into the Trans Canada Trail network is a proud moment for the County of Renfrew. This milestone exemplifies our dedication to creating a vibrant, connected community that celebrates the County’s natural beauty through outdoor recreation.”
With the Algonquin Trail now part of this iconic network, outdoor enthusiasts are invited to explore the beauty of Renfrew County, whether for hiking, cycling, or simply enjoying nature.
