The 2024 Community Christmas Dinner at St. Columbkille Cathedral was a heartwarming success, thanks to the generous efforts of local volunteers. On Monday, December 23, 540 meals were delivered to those in need, far surpassing last year’s total of 420. Originally planning for a 10% increase, organizers were thrilled to see a 32% rise in requests, ensuring that even more community members could enjoy a warm holiday meal.
Organized by the volunteer kitchen crew of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the initiative was made possible with the help of 50 additional drivers and volunteers, who made deliveries between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. This year’s event built upon the tradition that has brought the community together for many years, with volunteers offering their time to make the process smooth and efficient.
In addition to the drivers, many volunteers helped as assistants, contributing to the success of the day. The event also provided an excellent opportunity for students to complete their 40-hour community service requirement, reinforcing the spirit of giving and community support during the holiday season.
Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, this year’s dinner spread joy and warmth to many in Pembroke, continuing the tradition of giving back to those in need.
