Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has died at 100. He passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia, after choosing hospice care in early 2023.
Carter, a former Georgia peanut farmer, served as president from 1977 to 1981. His time in office was marked by challenges like the Iran hostage crisis and economic struggles. However, he achieved a historic peace deal between Egypt and Israel.
After leaving office, Carter became known as a humanitarian. In 2002, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for promoting human rights, peace, and democracy.
Carter also lived longer after his presidency than any other U.S. leader. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, died in November 2023 at age 96.
Chip Carter, his son, told Reuters, “My father was a hero to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.”
Jimmy Carter’s legacy as a peacemaker and humanitarian continues to inspire.
