The Old School Championship Bass Series (OSCBS) is gearing up for its highly anticipated Ice Fishing Derby on Lake Dore, set to take place during Ontario’s Family Day long weekend. This exciting event offers a unique opportunity for anglers to compete without the need for a fishing license, making it accessible to everyone. The derby will be held in a designated area on the lake, managed by OSCBS officials to ensure safety and fairness for all participants.
The event will follow the Old School Rules, which prohibit the use of live sonar devices, underwater cameras, drones, and fish-calling devices. Anglers are permitted to use traditional sonar devices to assist with water depth and bottom readings. All fish caught must be measured by OSCBS officials and released live to be eligible for prize money. To keep the competition fair, participants will be allowed to use pop-up shelters, but these must be set up on the morning of the event. No permanent ice shacks will be allowed.
For safety, full-sized vehicles will not be permitted on the ice. Instead, ATVs, side-by-sides, and snowmobiles will be allowed, but the Tournament Director has the right to revoke these permissions if weather and ice conditions become unsafe.
Early Bird registration is open now and runs through February 1, 2025. Participants can register by picking up paper forms at Allan’s Bait & Tackle in Pembroke or by contacting OSCBS for other options. Early registrants who complete their registration and payment will be eligible for an Early Bird Prize Package and other draw prizes.
Prize money will be determined by the number of entries, and more details on guaranteed payouts will be provided as the event date approaches. If the event is canceled due to weather or unsafe ice conditions, all registered anglers will be entered into a random prize draw, with winners announced via live video on the OSCBS Facebook page.
OSCBS is also seeking additional sponsors for the event. Those interested in sponsoring can contact the organization through email or social media. With the Ice Fishing Derby fast approaching, OSCBS is excited to kick off 2025 with an engaging and fun event for anglers across the region.
