Local police have added another slate of charges as their Festive RIDE campaign approaches the finish line.
The OPP’s East Region Headquarters says officers across the Ottawa Valley and beyond arrested another 20 drunk or impaired drivers during the campaign’s fifth week, bringing the total to 103 charges laid since it began on November 21st.
In addition to those charges, officers also issued a total of 29 warning-range suspensions, resulting in those drivers being issued license suspensions and having their vehicles impounded.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm says, “The OPP encourages everyone to celebrate the arrival of 2025 safely. Make plans in advance to get home, such as having a designated driver, taking a taxi, or using ride-share or public transit. Impaired driving can instantly change a celebration into a tragedy.”
She reminds the public that RIDE programs can happen anywhere, anytime—day or night. If you suspect someone is driving drunk, a call to 9-1-1 could save lives.
