With school back in session this week following the winter break, you probably noticed the increased traffic on your commute. School buses have returned to local roadways and little feet are once again walking to and from both schools and bus stops.
Because of this, myFM sat down with Kevin Murray of First Student Canada to share some vital bus safety reminders with the community.
For those who don’t encounter a school bus on the regular, Murray reminds drivers that the lighting system on buses is much like a traffic signal.
Adding that when the stop sign is out, motorists must wait for the bus driver’s okay to go.
And because bus safety is a collaborative effort, Murray notes that students need to do their part as well.
In closing, Murray reminds residents that school buses tend to follow the same route every day. He says that if a bus continuously stopping for students is going to cause you frustration, to find a different way to your destination.
