There were no serious injuries reported after a collision in North Algona Wilberforce involving an SUV and a horse-drawn hay wagon but the situation could have been much worse, says North Algona Wilberforce Fire Chief Kevin Champ.
On Thursday, Jan. 9, shortly after 5 p.m., firefighters, along with officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Renfrew County Paramedics, responded to the intersection of Letts Cemetery Road and Snodrifters Road.
While the call for help had originally been reported as a vehicle colliding with a personal transport buggy, Chief Champ says a small SUV rear-ended a horse-drawn hay wagon.
Police say paramedics transported the driver of the SUV to hospital with minor injuries and there were no injuries reported for the individuals in the buggy or the horses.
Champ said the wagon pierced the cabin of the SUV, causing considerable damage.
The incident, which could have been much worse, can serve as a reminder for drivers when it comes to rural roads.
Emergency officials were also somewhat frustrated with the behaviour of drivers in the area following the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
