They wanted it. And they got it.
Last year, the Renfrew Amateur Wrestling Club submitted a bid to host the 2025 Canada East Wrestling Festival at the myFM Centre. Officials recently announced that their application was successful, and the event will run over two days – May 10 and 11.
Planning and preparation are already underway. Officials say that among the major needs will be volunteers and sponsorships.
It’s the first time since 2011 that Renfrew County has hosted the festival.
The Town of Renfrew endorsed the event last year after receiving a request from the club. Hosting the event is a natural fit for both the town and the club, which operates three local teams and wrestling programs in Renfrew, Pembroke, and Petawawa. They also work with local school boards to share facilities, equipment, and expertise under a unique collaborative agreement.
Among the upcoming events for the wrestling club is the Norm Bujold Ramble on Feb. 15.
