A local driver is facing several charges after a recent investigation by the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment. On January 5, off-duty OPP officers intervened at a gas station in Bonnechere Valley Township to prevent a driver from operating their vehicle. The individual fled on foot, prompting the deployment of the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT). However, the individual was not located at that time.
Following the investigation, 34-year-old Steven Aubrey of Laurentian Valley Township was arrested on January 13, and charged with multiple offenses, including:
- Operation while prohibited
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with cannabis in open baggage
- Driving a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock device
Aubrey was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on February 5. His vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.
The OPP continues to remind drivers about the importance of following all laws related to impaired driving and the operation of motor vehicles.
