Ottawa Valley residents should stay bundled up over the next 24 hours as an extreme cold warning from Environment Canada has been extended into Monday.
The weather agency says that wind chill values as low as -35° are expected to continue into the mid-morning today before warming a little this afternoon. However, temperatures are expected to dip again this evening, presenting a risk for frostbite within minutes on exposed skin.
Commuters are advised to dress warmly and in layers that can be taken off easily if needed. They should also be wary of symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in fingers and toes.
Cold weather affects everyone, so be sure to check on older family, friends, and neighbours, and remember: if it’s too cold outside for you, it’s way too cold for your pets.
