Pembroke residents will see a tax increase this year following the final deliberations of the city’s Finance and Administration Committee on the 2025 levy. The committee approved an 8.89% increase, which will take effect for local ratepayers.
Mayor Ron Gervais described the increase as regrettable but necessary to ensure the continued delivery of the high-quality services residents rely on and expect.
What this means is that, a Pembroke property owner with an average residential assessment of $185,000 will be paying $277 more this year.
The average multi-residential property, assessed at $700,000, will see an increase of approximately $2,031 this year (based on a 12-unit building). Meanwhile, the average commercial property, assessed at $218,000, will face a roughly $646 increase, and industrial properties assessed at $184,700 will experience a similar increase.
Water and sewer rates are also rising. Flat water rates are projected to increase by 5.7%, with metered water rates going up by 9.8%. Flat sewer rates will increase by 5.2%, while metered sewer rates will rise by 6.9%. The average residential taxpayer can expect an additional cost of $6.71 per month for city water and sewer services in 2025.
Last years budget saw a 7.9% increase over the previous year.
