The new year is off to an exciting start for students at schools in Petawawa, Deep River, and Chalk River filled with fun activities and initiatives to support student growth and community spirit.
At Our Lady of Sorrows, students are being recognized monthly for their communication skills with “Effective Communication” awards. The school is also hosting Winter Play Day, featuring skiing, skating at the Civic Centre, snow painting, and bouncy castles for a day of outdoor fun. Additionally, Our Lady of Sorrows is working on celebrating the diverse cultures of its students by collecting family stories and traditions to create visual displays that promote inclusivity.
Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Francis of Assisi School are building stronger community ties through friendly competitions, like a recent soccer tournament and an upcoming pickleball event. The two schools are also teaming up for faith-based initiatives, strengthening connections between students, staff, and the local parish.
At St. Francis of Assisi, parent volunteers raised $1,800 during the Christmas Bonanza, which will support student activities and new equipment. The school is also engaging students in Indigenous education through the Canadian Geographic Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada, helping students learn about Indigenous cultures and history.
St. Anthony’s Catholic School offers students a large outdoor space for sports and creative play. Kindergarten students enjoy a fun, engaging learning environment with centers for literacy, math, and art. The school also fosters positive behavior with the “Quiet Hallway Challenge,” where classes compete to walk silently through the halls.
With so many engaging activities and exciting initiatives, students in the RCCDSB are off to a fantastic start to the year, and there’s much more to look forward to!
