Cobden’s Civitan Club reeled in plenty of local support for causes close to home at their latest trek onto Muskrat Lake.
They send a big thank you to everyone who sponsored or donated prizes for this past weekend’s annual ice fishing derby, which proved too tempting for local anglers despite a frigid start to Saturday morning.
Thanks to the support from the community, the Civitan Club says they were able to donate $5,000 each to Hospice Renfrew, Renfrew County Community Poverty Action Network, Teen Challenge—Eastern Ontario’s Men Centre, and The Phoenix Centre.
Brinley Zelney, Irene Dillabough, Ryan Cadieux, Gabriel Brisco, Jamison Finley, and Ricky Laporte took home prizes in the Junior Derby, which got the morning started along the boat launch.
Other winners from the competition include:
- Longest Pike—Brendan Cybulski, Jason McCanna, Tasha Gutoski
- Longest Perch—Susan Parker, Kyle Laporte, and Jerome Alfelski
- Longest Trout—Adrian Vereyken, Sam Myatt, and Layla Franklin
