A Bonnechere Valley Township resident is facing multiple charges, including impaired driving, following a collision in the Upper Ottawa Valley. On the evening of February 3, around 7:00 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the UOV Detachment responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in Petawawa.
An off-duty OPP officer discovered a vehicle stuck in a snowbank on Civic Centre Road. Upon investigation, it was found that the vehicle had left the roadway, crossed onto the sidewalk, and collided with the snowbank. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Sasha Miller, was taken into custody for impaired driving.
At the detachment, testing revealed Miller’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. During the investigation, police also seized a quantity of alcohol. As a result, Miller faces several charges under the Criminal Code (CC) and the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA), including:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
- Driving motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
In addition to the charges, Miller’s driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
The OPP reminds residents to always drive responsibly and never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
