With just three weeks left until the Feb. 27 provincial election, we’re shining a light on our riding, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, electoral district 088.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke sits along the Ottawa River and borders on a western section of the province of Quebec. According to the 2021 census, the 12,385-square-kilometre region has a population of 107,410 people.
MPP John Yakabuski is retiring, after first being elected in 2003. Candidates who have put their name forward so far include (in alphabetical order): Marshall Buchanan (NDP); Billy Denault (Conservatives); Anna Dolan (Green Party) and Oliver Jacob (Liberal).
The nomination deadline for candidates to appear on the ballot is Feb. 13.
According to Elections Ontario, in the last provincial election in 2022, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke had a 46.38 cent voter turnout, slightly higher than the provincial average of 44 per cent.
Cities, towns and municipalities in the riding include: City of Pembroke, Town of Arnprior, Town of Deep River, Town of Laurentian Hills, Town of Petawawa, Town of Renfrew, Township of Admaston/Bromley, Township of Bonnechere Valley, Township of Brudenell, Lyndoch And Raglan, Township of Greater Madawaska, Township of Head, Clara And Maria, Township of Horton, Township of Killaloe, Hagarty And Richards, Township of Laurentian Valley, Township of Madawaska Valley, Township of Mcnab-Braeside, Township of North Algona-Wilberforce, Township of South Algonquin, and Township of Whitewater Region.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke’s adjacent electoral districts include: Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock; Hastings-Lennox and Addington; Kanata-Carleton; Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston; and Nipissing.
