As high school seniors and mature students make their post-graduation decisions, Algonquin College’s Pembroke campus is ready to welcome applications for a variety of in-demand programs. Whether it’s a new career direction or further specialization, students can find programs tailored to the region’s needs and growing industries.
Algonquin College Pembroke offers diverse programs, with many starting in the fall, but there are also options beginning in winter and spring. Notably, the Practical Nursing program now offers two intakes annually, while the Personal Support Worker program accepts students in the fall, winter, and spring, addressing the ongoing demand for skilled workers in the healthcare sector.
For those interested in specialized fields, the campus provides unique offerings, such as the Applied Nuclear Science and Radiation Safety diploma. This two-year co-op program prepares students for careers in Ontario’s nuclear industry, including major employers like Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River, where many Algonquin graduates find employment.
The Pembroke campus is also known for its outdoor-focused programs, making the most of the beautiful Ottawa Valley landscape. Programs such as Outdoor Adventure, Environmental Technician, and Forestry Technician provide hands-on training in environmental and outdoor management. Many students travel from outside the area to take advantage of these specialized programs, and the recent announcement of an on-demand public transit system in Pembroke will help students with transportation needs.
As the demand for mental health services continues to rise, the Social Service Worker program at the Pembroke campus remains a popular choice for students wanting to make a difference in their communities. Additionally, Algonquin College is addressing the shortage of early childhood educators with a new compressed Early Childhood Education program, allowing students to complete their studies in just one year.
The college also offers business and technology programs with opportunities for paid co-op placements. Programs like Computer Systems Technician and Business diploma programs provide students with valuable on-the-job experience, helping them transition smoothly into the workforce.
Many of the programs at the Pembroke campus qualify for the Better Jobs Ontario program, providing financial assistance for displaced workers looking to retrain. Additionally, nursing programs are eligible for the Ontario Learn and Stay grant, which helps cover educational costs if graduates commit to working locally after graduation.
For those interested in exploring the many program options available, the Pembroke campus encourages potential students to take a campus tour and speak with faculty members to better understand the opportunities ahead.
