When a Delta Airlanes plane crash-landed and flipped upside down at Toronto Pearson International Airport Monday, Renfrew County’s top paramedic just happened to be at the location.
Renfrew County Paramedic Chief Michael Nolan, who is also the vice president of the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs, is hosting a conference in Toronto this week and was at Pearson picking up friend Pete Carlson who was scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the conference. Carlson just so happened to be travelling on the plane involved in the crash.
There were no fatalities but 21 people, including a child, were injured after the Bombardier CRJ900 skidded down the tarmac before coming to a fiery stop while flipped upside down.
Media reports indicate that, immediately following the crash, Nolan was able to connect with and reassure Carlson, who had sustained a head injury.
Nolan, in contact with paramedics on scene, was then able to move to the staging area here he joined Peel region paramedics to help care for people who were less seriously injured.
