Wednesday February 26th is Pink Shirt Day. Bullying remains a significant issue in our schools, workplaces, homes, and online environments. Throughout February and the entire year, Pink Shirt Day seeks to raise awareness about these challenges while also promoting healthy self-esteem in children. Chloe and Eden are among thousands who understand what the day is all about:
Now a movement celebrated across the globe, Pink Shirt Day has humble beginnings. Inspired by an act of kindness in small-town Nova Scotia. In 2007 two young high school boys took it upon themselves to distribute pink shirts to all of their friends when a grade 9 student at their school was being bullied for wearing one.
They sent out messages to schoolmates that night, and the next morning they brought the shirts to school in a plastic bag. As they stood in the foyer handing out the shirts, the bullied boy walked in. The look on his face was priceless.
Several years later Pink Shirt Day is recognized world wide and last year alone, people in almost 180 countries shared their support of Pink Shirt Day through social media posts and donations.
Eden and Chloe have a pretty simple message to sum it all up:
Words to heed well today and all year long as we proudly wear a Pink Shirt today in support of anti bullying.
