The Eganville Leader newspaper will cease publishing in February 2026.
The news was announced in a front-page story of the Feb. 26, edition, with publisher Gerald Tracey indicating the decision was based on his health and age.
“Deciding to close the Leader is the most difficult decision I have had to make in my 52 years in the business, but the time has come,” said Tracey, who has dealt with heart issues, including having recently had a pacemaker inserted.
Tracey said readers, subscribers and advertisers should know that it will be business as usual until this time next year. The final edition will be published on Feb. 28, 2026.
The Leader is Renfrew County’s largest paid circulation newspaper. It was founded in 1902 by Patrick McHugh and purchased in 1944 by the Tracey Family.
