The Pembroke Symphony Orchestra is going to help us usher in spring with a much awaited performance this coming Saturday March 1st at 2PM. This show takes place at Festival Hall and features none other than guest conductor Travis Mandel from Ottawa who returns to the PSO with “Frost To Flames”, an afternoon of Classical music with everything from Rossini’s “Barber Of Seville” to the sultry tones of Carmen as well as some terrific well know works in between.
Classical music is often enjoyed more by the older set and largely absent from the playlists of most young music lovers, but Mandel says that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case:
He adds that todays youth are perhaps more open to alternative forms of music than before and he finds this very encouraging:
Mandel stresses the fact that these are local musicians performing for local music lovers and that is a winning combination regardless of ones musical tastes.
The PSO has been an institution here in The Valley since 1993 when it was created by residents for residents. This local spirirt is very much alive today. He also adds that he will be bringing along some talented players from Ottawa as well:
Tickets are available at Festival Hall at 401 Isabella Street and are $25 for adults, $15 for students and kids under 12 are free. Come on out and enjoy a little taste of spring in the middle of winter!
