The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) – Pembroke District is issuing a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety for Renfrew County and the Pembroke District. This statement is in effect until Friday, March 28. The warm weather recently experienced in the area has caused snow to melt and lake ice to thaw. With forecasted precipitation and continued warm temperatures, water levels on lakes and rivers are expected to rise.
Residents living in flood-prone areas are urged to stay informed about changing conditions and take necessary precautions. Those near watercourses where flows may be high and banks could be unstable should avoid these areas for safety. The ministry expects that lower-lying regions of known flood-prone areas may be impacted as water levels increase over the coming week.
Residents are also reminded that no ice is safe ice. With warmer temperatures and fluctuating water levels, ice conditions on local lakes may become unstable and dangerous. MNRF advises extra caution around waterbodies, and parents should closely supervise children and pets near these areas.
Additionally, outdoor enthusiasts should be cautious when using forest access roads, as these areas may become flooded or prone to washouts, making them impassable.
The Ministry is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the latest developments to ensure their safety.
