Community support is trickling in as the family of Beachburg’s Paige Atherton adjusts to a new chapter without her.
Her long-time friend, Randy McLaughlin, has set up a GoFundMe page for the family of Atherton, whose high-profile battle against a rare form of appendix cancer brought in over $130,000 from people in the Ottawa Valley and beyond for treatment and expenses back in 2023.
Atherton’s cancer returned last year, and she would eventually succumb to the disease in late February.
McLaughlin explains the fundraising effort is part of a promise he made to Atherton to care for her husband and three kids and that the money will be used to cover funeral expenses, as well as child care and to provide a legacy fund for their education.
Since opening, the page has collected over $10,500 of its $18,000 goal as people continue to send their condolences to the Atherton family. You can support the cause here.
