The driver of a tractor involved in a 2024 crash that killed former Renfrew police chief and bylaw enforcement company owner James McBain has been charged with careless driving causing death.
The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued a release Monday, March 24, saying they have charged the driver of the tractor that was involved in the fatal crash involving a motorcycle driven by McBain.
“On September 26, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m. police were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 41 at Walsh Road involving a motorcycle and a farm tractor,” reads the release. “The driver of the motorcycle, a 76-year-old male from Renfrew, was transported to hospital by ambulance and died a short time later. The driver of the farm tractor was not injured.”
Police say 64-year-old Kevin Schoenfeldt of NAW was charged on March 18 with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Pembroke court on April 28.
The charges have not been proven in court.
The investigation was conducted with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members.
