County of Renfrew paramedics treated a number of people when they responded to Friday’s tragic fire in Pembroke.
One person pulled from the fire and taken to hospital later died.
Paramedics, along with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Pembroke Department, Earlier today, got the call just before 8 a.m. on Friday, March 28 for a structure fire in the Mary Street area.
In a social media post, Renfrew County paramedics reported that multiple patients were treated.
“Paramedics assessed, treated and transported six patients to hospital for smoke and heat related injuries as follows:
- 1 person with critical injuries
- 2 people with serious injuries
- 3 people with non-life threatening injuries.”
Six paramedic crews, two community paramedic response units, the drone team, command staff and Mesa teams were activated for this response.
Along with police and fire crews, officials from the Canadian Red Cross and Ottawa River Power Corporation. Members of the OPP and Pembroke Fire Department remained on scene for some time and a section of Mary Street from Murray to Doran Streets was still closed on Saturday.
People were being asked to avoid the area if possible.
