The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to advise the public of a police training exercise taking place in the area on April 14 and 15, 2025.
Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence during the daytime hours in both the Pembroke and Petawawa area as local officers participate in Project Lifesaver training. There is no public safety risk, however area residents are asked to maintain a safe distance should they encounter officers involved in the training exercise.
Project Lifesaver is a non-profit, locating technology program dedicated to assisting and responding to the challenges faced by the caregivers of loved ones who may wander as a result of Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, Down’s syndrome and dementia disorders. Clients registered with Project Lifesaver wear a wrist band which looks similar to a watch that emits a unique automatic tracking signal. Should they go missing, the police would be able to quickly track the client using a radio frequency antenna and receiver.
For more information or to register a loved one with Project Lifesaver call the Dementia Society of Renfrew County at 1-888-411-2067.
