The top doctor with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) says he will continue wearing masks after mandates are lifted next week (March 21st, 2022).
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Cushman says we are still seeing a number of outbreaks in high risk settings and roughly a dozen local residents are hospitalized with COVID-19.
Cushman adds Renfrew County and District is always a couple of weeks behind the Toronto area when it comes to new cases and infections.
Cushman says by the middle of April, he expects us to have a better view of the COVID-19 outlook in our community.
Cushman talked about the potential of super-spreader events with restrictions easing and Easter and Saint Patrick’s Day around the corner.
The acting medical officer of health with the RCDHU encourages others to be kind to those who continue to wear a mask.
He adds those who are high-risk or immunocompromised should continue wearing masks for the time being.
Cushman says he will continue wearing a mask until mid-April.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health in Ontario, Dr. Kieran Moore, has also said he will continue to wear a masks in places like department stores.
Cushman adds vaccination continues to provide protection from serious illness caused by COVID-19.
