Laurentian Valley Township Councillor Keith Watt has submitted nomination papers to run for Reeve in the upcoming municipal election. Watt was elected as a councillor in 2014 and reelected in 2018. Before running for council he worked for MPAC which got him interested in municipal politics.
Watt has lived in the area for over 40-years and is excited to see the future and growth in Laurentian Valley. The two term councillor in Laurentian Valley says one of his greatest privileges has been assisting residents and dealing with their concerns and providing the required direction.
Watt says he has been honoured to be part of Laurentian Valley Council for the last 8-years and would like to continue helping make the Township a great place to live, work and raise a family.
The individual elected Reeve in Laurentian Valley represents the Township at the county level. Watt talked about long range planning, cost sharing and working together with neighbouring municipalities with a goal to maintain the budget at a level that keeps taxes as low as possible.
Prior to being elected, Watt was a volunteer on the Laurentian Valley Policing Committee for 12 years and was Chair of the committee for his last six years. Watt is Chair of the Public Works Committee, Board Chair for the Pembroke Public Library and a liaison to Forest Lea Park.
Current Reeve Debbie Robinson has announced she does not plan to run again in the fall election and now two sitting councillors, Keith Watt and Chris Pleau, have stepped forward with hopes to be elected as Reeve of the Township of Laurentian Valley.
