There’s an agri-food career fair taking place this week in the Ottawa Valley. Career fair coordinator Emily Behm says the event is hosted by the Ottawa Valley Food Cooperative in partnership with the Township of North-Algona-Wilberforce. Behm says the average age of farmers in Canada is 55 and adds they struggle with losing young talented workers to jobs in urban cities.
Behm says this is the first time the agri-food career fair is taking place. She says they hope to increase awareness about exciting opportunities in the agricultural industry in our area.
She says two local high schools will be touring around to farms in Cobden, Renfrew, Pembroke, Eganville and the surrounding area.
Behm says the event is not open to the public yet, but adds they hope to offer it again with a chance for local residents to attend and learn more about the local agricultural industry.
