The County of Renfrew is opening a new Clinical Assessment Centre in Cobden. Chief Paramedic Michael Nolan says the ConnectWell Community Health in Cobden will be used as a site for the clinical assessment centre.
He says this will provide expanded services to rural communities in the eastern and western ends of the County of Renfrew by providing a central location to access testing and treatment of COVID-19, vaccinations, and other health and wellness services.
Chief Paramedic Michael Nolan says the clinical assessment centres are part of the Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (VTAC), not a separated service. Patients who call VTAC with health concerns may be directed to one of the Clinical Assessment Centres in Renfrew County. Nolan says the locations provide a space for paramedics to do a full assessment on patients which can be anything from COVID-19 tests, to simple height/weight evaluations for proper medication prescription, to diagnostic tests for Streptococcus A. He adds paramedics are still doing home visits if required.
Clinical assessment centres have already been set up at the Shady Nook Recreation Centre in Laurentian Valley and at the Grove in Arnprior. Nolan also talked about expanding clinical assessment centres to other locations in Renfrew County. Bonnechere Valley Mayor Jennifer Murphy and Deep River Reeve Glenn Doncaster referenced potential sites in Deep River and Eganville.
