The Petawawa Fire Department is looking to get kayakers, boaters and others who frequent nearby waterways to provide names for sections of the river. Acting Fire Chief Craig Proulx says this will allow the department to respond to certain areas quickly and rescue anyone in case of an emergency.
In June, the Petawawa Fire Department conducted SWIFT water training. The training included swimming in fast water, throwing ropes from land, entering the water to save patients, performing a rescue while being tethered to shore and equipment familiarization.
Council has also approved the purchase of a rigid inflatable boat, trailer and engine at a cost of just over $80,000 plus HST. The acting chief says everyone in the department will be trained on the boat once the equipment arrives. The new boat won’t be delivered until May of 2023 due to supply chain issues.
