Petawawa is taking part in the Treat Accessibly initiative on Halloween. Homes that are offering accessible or barrier free trick-or-treating can put a sign in their lawn to let others know. Executive Assistant for the Town Kate Bennett says this is the first year they’re taking part and hope to see the initiative spread across Renfrew County and the Ottawa Valley.
Petawawa Accessibility Advisory Committee member Lynn Davenport says Halloween and trick-or-treating is fun and they want everyone to be able to take part.
Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee Theresa Sabourin says most homes in Petawawa have stairs or steps in front of the main door and the idea is to remove barriers to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy Halloween.
Residents can visit the Petawawa RE/MAX office at 10A Canadian Forces Boulevard or the Town of Petawawa Municipal office at 1111 Victoria Street to obtain a lawn sign.
On Halloween night, PAAC and Petawawa Fire Prevention will be setting up their own barrier-free, trick-or-treat stations at both Petawawa Fire Stations (1111 Victoria Street & 23 Schwanz Road).
Stop by homes with the yellow flag or check out the map of all places participating in the Treat Accessibly event on the Town’s website.
