The mission of the Canadian Forces Base Petawawa Military Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret the history of the individuals and units of the Canadian Armed Forces in Petawawa since 1905. The Garrison Petawawa Military Museum is open 11am to 4pm Monday to Friday. The museum welcomes the input of our local community, with its significant veteran population, on broadening representation of the LGBTQ+ community and their contributions to Petawawa’s history, persons with disabilities and marginalized communities. In the spring/summer of 2023, the museum will be opening a new exhibit about Indigenous soldiers which is being developed in collaboration with the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan and Kitigan Zibi First Nations. In addition to this exhibit, an updated narrative that better reflects the Indigenous history of Petawawa before the establishment of the base will be added to the museum. The Garrison Petawawa Military Museum is also home to three main artifact collections. Each of these collections come together to give visitors an informative and entertaining overview of Garrison Petawawa and how they fit in to Canada’s Armed Forces today.
