Volunteers will be set up at the Pembroke Mall for the next five weeks as part of the annual Kiwanis Christmas Toy and Food Drive.
Co-Chair of the Toy and Food Drive Mack Thrasher says they hope to raise $40,000 to $50,000 this year.
Thrasher goes on to say 130 families are currently signed up at the Food Bank to benefit from the fundraiser and they expect that number to grow.
Co-Chair of the fundraiser Jay McLaren says they will have volunteers helping collect donations until December 22nd.
A booth has been set up to collect toy and cash donations inside the Pembroke Mall with food donations accepted at Food Basics.
At the kick off for the Kiwanis Toy and Food Drive on Wednesday, November 16th, the Rotary Club made a $2,500 donation and the Pembroke Legion made a $500 donation.
Last year, the Pembroke Kiwanis Christmas Toy and Food Drive raised over $42,000 and distributed 219 bags of toys to families in the community.
