The race to keep the Ontario Winter Games’ alpine skiing at Calabogie Peaks is now on.
Games Chair Peter Emon says fire which heavily damaged the snowmaking facility at the ski hill on Tuesday, January 3rd could have been far worse.
Around 250 competitors are expected to race down Calabogie Peaks over the first two weeks of February, and Emon is confident that resort’s team can have a solution in time for the events.
He adds that alpine skiing is a significant portion of the schedule and an important part of hosting the Ontario Winter Games. As such, the Game committee has not had any conversations about moving it to a different location just yet.
The 2023 Ontario Winter Games will host events across Renfrew County from February 2nd-12th, with Alpine Skiing currently scheduled from February 9th-11th at Calabogie Peaks.
